Much more than a 2 in 1!
Starting with the floors. The mop is really easy to set up, you dump water into it the same way you would an iron. It has a large reservoir that will last a few cleanings easily. When you turn it on you wait for the color of the water to turn from red to blue meaning it is ready to use, which took quite literally 30 seconds. This is so much faster than the 5 minute warm up time for my other machine. It is feasible to leave this nearby and bring it out for quick clean ups. One thing I noticed was that the button to turn it on was difficult to depress and the mop itself was really quite hard to push. My arm was sore halfway through the kitchen so I called my husband in to try and he agreed that it was hard to push on vinyl floors. I think this would be a serious problem for an elderly user or someone with arthritis. The steamer sent clouds of steam up letting me know it was working and the floor was clean with one pass. If you don’t sweep before you use this it will leave small lines of crumbs or dust here and there, but it is easy enough to wipe up afterwards with a damp towel.
This steamer works on carpet with a gliding tray, you pop it on over the cleaning cloth and then you can use it to “freshen” the carpet. This will not clean the carpet but it does disinfect which is a nice option with crawling kids around. It will also work on chairs! I cleaned and sanitized the high chair and our dining chairs with the attachments provided. I was also able to clean with windows and mirrors with the squeegee attachment.
This is a versatile cleaner that has endless uses. I really like the fact that you can clean the floors and then detach the handheld steamer and clean other areas of the house with this.
Some things to note:
*You can only use water in this, no scents or chemicals are supposed to be used with this. If your house has hard water you need to buy deionized water for use.
*There are a lot of attachments, but they all fit into a little bag for easy storage and use.
*This is not a good product for the elderly or arthritic, it is heavy, hard to push and the buttons are not easy to depress.
*Based on clean floors alone, this product does the same job as my $50 steam mop. The value in this mop is the attachments, the removable steamer, the convenience and quality of the product all around. If you just want clean floors alone though, you can find a cheaper model.
Review of Black and Decker Steam Mop.
The mop is electric. NEVER BUY A CORDLESS OR RECHARGEABLE STEAMER. They require too much power to properly heat and make steam…ONLY BUY A CORDED OR NON RECHARGE UNIT.
This model has something unique, a control to allow for a big blast of steam for those tougher stains or messes. It will release 50% more steam on demand or whenever needed. The tank sets above the pivot for the mop head. I find the tank easily accessible. The tank holds less than about 11 oz. LED lights red and blue monitor the tank for you.
The cord is extra long, 25 feet and you will not be worried about distant moping. The pivoting head makes easy cleaning all the way to the baseboards and corners.it comes with two micro fiber pads and two rectangle shaped pads for the hard to reach corners. All mops are machine washable. This is probably the best steamer for pivoting on the market today.
If you have 300 sq ft or more of hard surface floors, this is a MUST HAVE. I recommend this Black & Decker BDH1850SM 2-in-1 Steam Mop.

Clean your house with water!
The steam mop requires very little assembly out of the box. The only things you need to do are slide the metal handle down into the body, attach the mop head, and click the steam generator into the body. No tools are necessary as all the parts simply snap into place. Once everything is assembled, you’ll find that the Black and Decker is nicely constructed from quality materials and feels solid in the hand.
Included with the steam mop are loads of attachments. For the mop portion of the machine there are two washable mopping pads, a carpet glider, and a resting mat. For the handheld portion you’ll find a hose, two brushes (a long narrow one, and a small round one), a squeegee, and an adjustable spray nozzle attachment. Two more included accessories are a bag to hold all of the machine’s accouterments and a filling cup. Overall, it’s a very nice and thoughtful package.
Using the Black and Decker is easy. To get started you fill the water reservoir on the front of the machine. Then you turn it on using the large power button on the top of the steam generator. Once powered on a light in the water reservoir will shine red as the machine warms up to temperature, then turn blue when it’s ready to clean. The light system is very neat and easy to see. The machine heats up quickly, in about 10 seconds.
If you’re using the steamer to do your floors then you simply attach a pad (they attach with velcro), choose the floor type for the right amount of steam (there is a button on the top of the handle for wood/laminate, stone/marble, and tile/vinyl) and tip the handle back to start generating steam. When you place the mop in an upright position the steam stops – there are no triggers or buttons necessary. It’s a very convenient feature. Additionally, a burst of steam button on the top of the handle releases more steam for about 10 seconds for tougher stains. The mop is very easy to push/pull on my tile floors, and the swivel head makes it easy to get to the sides of toilet bowls and under tables and chairs. Unfortunately, the mop head is a bit too large to fit behind the toilet bowl completely.
If you’re using the steamer as a handheld cleaner then you simply pull the steam generator off the front of the mop (there a large button to release it), attach the hose and attach the desired accessory. There’s a trigger under the handle of the steam generator body that controls the release of steam. The button is a little finicky to push, however. The machine can be a bit unwieldy, and would really benefit from a strap to carry it over your shoulder. Still, it’s not heavy and is fairly compact.
As far as cleaning ability is concerned the Black and Decker performs very well. When cleaning my tile floors it easily removed salad dressing and maple syrup in a couple of passes, while permanent marker required a little more elbow grease. Everyday dirt is also cleaned up easily, and the floors are disinfected without using harsh chemicals. The water left behind dries very quickly, and there is no left over residue or stickiness. The carpet steamer attachment allows you to steam your carpets, but I didn’t notice much of a difference in my carpets. The handheld part of the machine cleans nicely as well. I used the spray nozzle to loosen baked on stains in my oven, and the squeegee attachment for the bathroom mirrors (make sure you have a towel nearby as a lot of water runs down the glass). The brush tools have extremely stiff bristles, however, and I am leery to use them on anything but the toughest materials as they look like they will scratch delicate surfaces very easily. I prefer to loosen dirt with the spray nozzle and wipe it away with a sponge.
All in all… a really nifty and useful steam cleaner.
Makes mopping a breeze
The Black & Decker 2-in-1 Mop is easy to assemble and comes packed with a multitude of accessories to help get the task of cleaning your floors and other surfaces. This mop will clean and sanitize sealed hardwood, sealed laminate, linoleum, vinyl, ceramic tile, stone and marble floors.
Accessories that come with this mop:
– 2 Washable Microfiber Pads
– Resting Mat
– 2 Triangular Pads
– Carpet glider
– 4 foot hose
– Adjustable steam nozzle
– Grout brush
– Detail brush
– Accessory bag
– Fill cup
After I assembled the mop and mopped the floored with it the first time, I was very impressed with it and found very little to not like about it.
Likes for the 2-in-1 Mop:
– I was able to clean the floor with less effort than using the SM1620 Steam Mop.
– The 25 foot cord.
– It didn’t leave any streak marks on my laminate flooring.
– I love the way the floors feel in the bare feet after they have been cleaned, not sticky residue.
– It doesn’t leave the floors saturated with water so the floors dry quickly, within 10 minutes.
– The steam burst button made cleaning the grout lines in the areas with ceramic tile easy and on any stubborn spots on the floors in general.
– It’s easy to change the flooring type settings as you move from room to room without having to stop and wait.
– I love the carpet glider, using on the carpet to refresh and sanitizing it with bursts of steam.
– The hand cleaner is not heavy and easy to maneuver with the different attachments
– Squeegee was so easy to use on the sliding glass doors.
– The grout brush and detail brush did a decent and quick work of the bathroom’s tiled areas.
Dislikes for the 2-in-1 Mop:
– Not easy to fill the water tank. You have to tilt the mop back and hold the fill cup at an angle but water still dribbles out a bit when pouring it.
– The tank runs out of water faster than the SM1260 Steam Mop. This may be due to a higher temperature in the steam. I was able to clean the flooring areas in my home on two tanks but the 2-in-1 Mop has me refilling the water tank at least 4 times.
– When using the steam nozzle, it tends to sputter randomly, spraying hot water out of the sides of the nozzle.
I have been using this mop weekly for about two months and it works each time just as good as the first time. I’d definitely recommend this steam mop.
Versatile cleaner for everything!
- heats up very fast. I usually fill it and plug it in when I start vacuuming, and it’s always ready in a minute or two.
- As long as I don’t go nuts with the burst of steam for tough areas, I can do the whole house on one tank
- I love that it shuts “off” with the steam when it’s upright. If I have to leave it for a moment I don’t have to worry about the wood floor getting damaged.
- didn’t like the resting mat, seemed cheap in comparison to other resting holders I’ve had.
- The pads sometimes roll up and under as you’re cleaning floors. I think they need more velcro to get them to attach better.
- a little hard to push, while it’s no problem for me but could be problematic for an older generation
- I’d like the cord to be a little longer. I hate having to switch outlets over and over.
Lots of bonuses!
For mopping, it’s straightforward. You fill a reservoir with water (tank capacity is nice and large), press the button and wait about 20-30 seconds for the light to change color, indicating it’s ready.
* Nice long cord. Our kitchen is fairly long and narrow, and it’s great to be able to reach the entirety of the kitchen without having to unplug the cord and move the unit.
* Easy to use. The swivel head lets the mop reach under the table and into corners.
* Cleans well. I like the extra burst of steam for areas that need a little more work. We have children and pets, and the wood floors always have something on them – mud, a breakfast spill, crayon…. the Black and Decker handled them well. Crayon took several passes, mud took two, but in the end it came out looking clean and fresh.
* I also like that if you put the unit upright, the steam shuts off. Sometimes I need to move something out of the way, and this is almost like a pause function so you don’t warp the floor or end up with a puddle in between uses.
* All of the extra goodies are SO nice. I’ve cleaned mirrors and the stove and have even used it to get some wrinkles out of a shirt. It’s a pretty handy unit.
* While the swivel head is nice, sometimes I feel like I am fighting with the mop to keep it on course. It tends to want to pull left, even if the head is aligned and I’m pushing straight.
* There is a function for cleaning carpet, and while this might freshen up an area, it’s really not a carpet cleaner. It might blow some steam on the area, but I have had no success in pulling out any stains. It still does other things well.
All in all, it’s a nice unit. I do think the Enviro cleans my wood floors a little quicker/easier, but if you’re looking for a product that has lots of added uses, this might be the way to go.
First, this mop does a great job. It heats up fast and the microfiber pads do a thorough job of cleaning the tile. I use this mop weekly and if there are any spills in the interim. I do not have any streaks in either tile, but we have extremely hard water in Southern Nevada and I use my filtered water to fill this mop. The box warns of this and I assume if you have streaks, you would need to use filtered water.
Last week I accidentally spilled an entire pitcher of pineapple juice on the floor right before I left for work. I was running late and quickly wiped up the standing juice. Then rushed to work where I dreaded coming home to a sticky mess and the dreadful job of having to clean it up. I was so relieved when this mop handled the stickiness like a pro! It took me 10 minutes to fully clean the large area and it was as good as new!
I really like that I can take the steam out of the mop and use it around the house with ease. I have great results when cleaning my shower and enjoy cleaning with it because I can see the results. This mop is well equipped and worth the cost, especially if factor in the cost of cleaning products savings. Highly recommended!
For our household very useful; outstanding cleaning, grout cleaner is a big winner
Combine that with having a 2 year old and 2 cats, and laminate, tile, vinyl, carpet, rugs, I was excited to try this product. After getting to know it I can recommend it without hesitation. It is easy to put together and use and very well thought out. You pour water in with the supplied cup (oddly the max line on the cup I have found is too much water). Hit the power button and the convenient light turns from red to blue in less than half a minute letting you know the steam is ready to go.
You then hit a button to go to your type of flooring. This is nice because the right amount of steam will come out. After we sweep our various floors it is nice to get them not only extra clean using this but also essentially sanitized. And without chemicals. Dirt comes off fairly easy especially if the burst is used. I was concerned about getting the laminate too wet but this has not been a problem.
The handheld also works well. I have used it for refreshing our couches and again not too wet. But it really shines on our grout. The grout attachment is unbelievable. Months of dirt in the grout just comes right out. Yes it is a hand a knees operation, but it does a phenomenal job.
Another well thought out feature is the resting pad. Great for interuptions without having to worry about unplugging and plugging back in. Black and Decker continues to impress. I now consider them side by side with the top brands in whatever household area they make a product. This product is no exception: great cleaning, simple and easy to use, no chemicals and makes the house cleaner, smell better, fresher, and healthier.
Beautiful to hold and use
It’s very easy to set up and run, you dump in water, (reservoir holds enough for several cleanings), and turn on the system. When the water LED light goes from red to blue you are ready to steam. I’d say it took around 40 seconds at most to heat up and it was good to go. Some have said it was hard to push but that’s all in the user. It’s no harder than my other steam mop, just that it puts out more steam than others I’ve used which does make it a little harder to move but only because there is more contact surface. As with any steam mop be sure to sweep before you get started!
I used it to freshen the carpet, and it glides on a tray which is quite nice. A few bursts of steam over dirt and soil takes it right out with some extra elbow grease via a damp cloth. When you take the unit apart you get the flexibility to clean the whole house. I did not try a greasy engine but I’m sure it would do the trick equally as it works on cooking grates and grills.
Do not use chemical cleaners in the water, which will ruin the steamer. They say use soft water and that’s what we have so I’m not sure how adverse hard water will would be.
This is a versatile cleaner that has endless uses. I really like the fact that you can clean the floors and then detach the handheld steamer and clean other areas of the house with this. If you are looking for a great 2 in 1 combo system then this is the item for you. If you want a good steam mop only, then I suggest looking for just a mop and save the few bucks to get a single use item. Me, I like to get a multitude of uses from an item so it fits the bill!
